Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I go to the dentist?

Generally, most adults and children should visit a dentist every 6 months for a periodic exam and dental cleaning. However, patients with gum disease usually need to see a dentist every 3 or 4 months instead for more frequent cleanings. Going to the dentist regularly is the best way to maintain your oral health. At your periodic exam, we will evaluate the health of your teeth, gums, and entire oral cavity. We also use this time to perform thorough oral cancer screenings.

Why does the dentist take x-rays?

Dental x-rays are a diagnostic necessity for comprehensive dental exams. Radiographs reveal decay, dental infection, tooth fractures, and bone abnormalities which otherwise may not be seen clinically. The amount of radiation used to obtain dental radiographs is extremely minimal and should not be a cause of concern.

What do I need to bring to my first appointment?
